2013 Kappas at the Monthly Emerging Young Leaders AKAdemy Meeting
On March 23, 2013, the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. held their annual E.Y.L. (Emerging Young Leaders) seminar on Science & Engineering. The presenters are pictured with the President and Vice President of Epsilon Tau Omega Chapter of A.K.A. (Patrick A. McDonald-Kappa Alpha Psi/GE, Colwyn Sayers - GE, Jason Murchison - Alpha Phi Alpha/GE, Faye Cooper - GE, Kristerpher Smith - Kappa Alpha Psi (past Jr. Grand Polemarch)/GE, Sallie Austin-A.K.A. Vice-President, Tracy Atkins - A.K.A., Gabriel Gibson - A.K.A., Tricie Harrison - A.K.A.) for this event. They focused on different areas of employment, ranging from business and engineering, and inspired the youth to think about these types of careers. Bro. Patrick McDonald of the Greenville (S.C.) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, an Electrical Engineer for G.E., had a unique and exceptional presentation, followed by a hands-on project built from wind spare turbine parts. During the hands on project, E.Y.L. had to work as a team and expand their imagination to build an anemometer (wind measuring device) and compare that device to an actual manufactured device. Bro. McDonald expressed that “learning or studying math and science is like building a relationship; building a relationship in these subjects is only limited by your imagination.”
